Try the synthetic example
This fictional alignment is a demonstration fixture, not a surveyed roadway or construction reference. It uses EPSG:6507 (NAD83(2011) / Mississippi East, US survey feet) and LandXML USSurveyFoot coordinates.
- Download the file to Files on your iPhone.
- In RoadStation Projects, choose Import LandXML and select the file.
- Confirm the imported CRS as EPSG:6507 and the US survey foot units.
- Select “Example alignment,” open Inspect Alignment → Entry and enter the coordinates below.
Worked manual check
X is Easting and Y is Northing, in US survey feet. This point lies 50 feet along the first tangent and 5 feet to its right.
- Easting (X)
986377.5959036754- Northing (Y)
1453406.9250950934- Expected station
100+50.00- Expected offset
5.000 ft RT(signed offset −5)
For the inverse query, enter station 10050 and offset −5 to recover the same coordinates. The analytic forward and inverse checks pass at a 0.000001 US survey foot tolerance. This numerical check does not measure phone GPS accuracy.
Reviewers away from the sample can evaluate Files import, CRS confirmation, map display, manual calculations and saved-project reopening. Live GPS reports the phone’s actual location; it does not simulate being on this alignment.
Troubleshooting
- CRS unresolved: obtain the EPSG, horizontal datum and exact units from project documentation. Nearby suggestions do not prove a CRS.
- Import rejected: read the reported geometry or XML issue. Use supported LandXML geometry; do not substitute a guessed line for unsupported data.
- Unexpected position: verify CRS, units and a documented control point first. Do not move geometry to match imagery.
- No location or a stale fix: check iOS location permission, precise-location setting, sky visibility, accuracy and freshness. Last-known results are not a new measurement.
- Maps unavailable: use Engineering View. Imagery requires Apple Maps availability and may require a connection.
- Source changed: replace the source from Files, then review CRS and alignment readiness before returning to Field Position.
